„Clear Upper Elbe” project has been successfully completed

The project „Clear Upper Elbe“ was officially completed on Thursday, 30 September 2010, after seventeen moths of intensive work effort.

The project included a construction of 35 km of gravity sewers, 4 km of public sewer pipes and two whirl separators. The town municipality and cooperating companies have fulfilled the strict requirements of EU directives on wastewater treatment. The quality of drinking water, recreational abilities of the region and environment in the city and surroundings has been improved too.

Jan Sobotka, Mayor of Vrchlabí, says: "Work in amount 600 MCZK is the biggest investment in modern history of Vrchlabí. The new sewerage system covers 95% of the city area. Most of the roads where excavation works took place have new asphalt surface. The construction of huge proportions has been done in an extremely short time - 17 months and has imposed requirements on public transport and movement of construction technology in the city."

Clear Upper Elbe joint venture of companies BAK and VCES successfully realized all construction works from April 2009 to 2010. The European Cohesion Fund supported the project with more than 50% of total costs and The Operational Programme Environmental of the Czech Republic also participated in financing of the project.
